Here’s the scoop on 520. There’s a lot going on with this number! It even involves the best Las Vegas Wedding Chapel!

520 originated as a slang word used by the Chinese online community as a shortcut to writing I love you in Chinese. Just like people writing ILY in English!. Over time, it began to be associated with the date May 20. This has now become a very popular date to get married! Throughout Chinese cities, there are long lines to get Marriage Certificates on May 20. It’s not just about the date but also the number in general.

The 20th of May has become a very special day for the Chinese because they celebrate love on this day! For the Chinese, it is like Valentine’s Day.

520 is a modern celebration day of love among the Chinese. Due to the meaning behind the initials of 520, this especially auspicious day is seen as a quirky expression of love.

Talking about this special event, you may wonder why it occurs on this day and not another one in Chinese. The answer is quite simple. It’s all about the sounds. When you write May 20th in numbers, it’s written 5.20. When you pronounce the numbers five two zero in Chinese, 五二零  wǔ èr líng, it sounds like I love you 我爱你  wǒ ài nǐ.  They don’t sound exactly the same, but they sound quite similar, and that’s enough! The Chinese love plays on homophonic words and numbers with hidden meanings.

Interestingly, Chris and Lisa were married on May 20. Next year, we will be celebrating our 33th anniversary! We had no idea of the Chinese meaning of the number or the date, even though I am half Chinese! I never heard anything about it from my mom or grandfather, but I guess that can be attributed to the fact that they were not using text shortcuts, lol! Our wedding date of May 20 happened because the venue we wanted for our reception was not available on the original date we chose of May 19.

Here’s another fun fact: the address of the best Las Vegas Wedding Chapel is 520. That’s right, PARADISE WEDDING CHAPEL IS LOCATED AT 520 S. 6TH STREET!

When we decided to open our Las Vegas Wedding Chapel, we had looked at many properties before we found this perfect location for Paradise Wedding Chapel. We had been open for a couple of months before we actually realized that the address was the same as our anniversary! It was several months later than we learned of the meaning from a nice Chinese couple that was getting married here. They had chosen this Las Vegas Wedding Chapel because of our address!

It’s a perfect trifecta! You can come to the best Las Vegas Wedding Chapel at 520 S. 6th St, meet the couple that will be celebrating 33 years of marriage on 5.20, and you can get married on 5.20!

Have a nice and lovely day full of 520 and love! Don’t forget to share your love, as much as you can: today and everyday by using 520, the Chinese love word!
